Job Overview
Location: Whitby, Ontario
Structure: Two-story house with attached garage
Problem: Squirrel activity inside interior walls, primarily during early morning and late evening hours
Service: Squirrel removal
Visits: 3
Summary
We responded to reports of persistent wall noises consistent with squirrel activity. Our inspection confirmed squirrels entering through a wall vent. A three-visit, humane removal process was completed, including temporary one-way doors, accommodation for dependent young, and final confirmation that activity had ceased.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-story residential home with multiple roof and wall penetrations, including vents accessible from grade using ladders. These features can be attractive entry points for squirrels seeking shelter.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported ongoing scratching and movement sounds within interior walls during mornings and evenings. The timing and nature of the activity suggested squirrels rather than rodents.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician identified an active wall vent with signs of wildlife entry. Additional vents on the roof and exterior walls were assessed for vulnerability. Interior inspection through the vent showed nesting material consistent with squirrel use.
Cause Analysis
Wall and roof vents can provide direct access into wall cavities if not properly protected. Squirrels commonly exploit these openings, especially during breeding seasons, to establish nesting sites inside warm, enclosed spaces.
Treatment / Removal
Visit 1:
The primary entry point was confirmed at a wall vent. Two one-way doors were installed to allow squirrels to exit without re-entry. Exclusion options for additional roof and wall vents were recommended; however, full exclusion was declined at that time.
Visit 2:
Continued activity was reported. On return, evidence suggested the presence of dependent young within the vent. The one-way door was temporarily removed to allow the adult squirrel to re-enter and relocate the babies. Once activity subsided, the one-way door was reinstalled.
Visit 3:
No further activity was reported. All one-way doors were removed. The treated vent and surrounding areas were inspected to confirm no damage and no signs of continued wildlife use.
Exclusion & Repairs
The primary wall vent was monitored and left intact following removal. While comprehensive vent exclusion was discussed earlier, the final inspection confirmed the treated area remained secure and inactive.
Outcome & Confirmation
Following the final visit, there were no additional reports of noise or wildlife activity. The removal process was completed successfully, and the structure showed no further signs of squirrel entry.
Technician Notes
The work was completed by technician Ardian, who conducted all inspections and follow-up visits. The removal was carried out using humane, non-lethal methods, with additional time allocated to ensure dependent animals were safely relocated before final closure.
