Exterior Rat Monitoring and Treatment — Whitby

Job Overview

Location: Whitby, Ontario
Structure: Detached one-storey house with attached garage
Problem: Exterior rat activity
Service: Exterior rat treatment and monitoring
Visits: 2

Summary

Pest Control Whitby attended a detached residential property in Whitby for ongoing exterior rat activity. Inspection confirmed activity limited to the exterior, with no interior signs present. A two-visit exterior treatment and monitoring plan was completed.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached one-storey home with an attached garage, deck, and perimeter fencing. Portions of the deck and fence attached to the structure showed signs of age and deterioration, creating conducive conditions along the exterior perimeter.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported long-term rat activity outdoors around the home. No noises, droppings, or damage were reported inside the house.

Inspection & Findings

A full exterior inspection was completed, focusing on the foundation, siding transitions, garage interface, and utility penetrations. No active entry points into the structure were identified at the time of inspection. Exterior conditions, including rotting deck and fence components, were noted as potential harborage areas supporting rodent movement around the home.

Cause Analysis

Exterior rat activity was likely sustained by available cover and shelter created by deteriorating wood features attached to the structure. These areas can provide protection and travel routes without requiring direct entry into the home. No structural breaches were present, which limited the issue to exterior activity only.

Treatment / Removal

During the first visit, our licensed exterminator installed two large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations along the exterior perimeter to address the active rat population. All pest control work was performed in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Technician Grant completed placement to target exterior movement patterns while maintaining safe positioning around the home.

Exclusion & Repairs

No exclusion work was performed, as no structural entry points were identified during inspection. Recommendations were provided to monitor and address deteriorating deck and fence components to reduce future exterior harborage.

Outcome & Confirmation

On the second visit, bait stations were rebaited and inspected. Exterior monitoring continued to show controlled activity with no evidence of interior involvement. The homeowner elected to continue exterior monitoring and treatment on a biannual basis.

Technician Notes

Photos taken during service show tamper-resistant bait stations positioned along the exterior near deck steps and fencing, as well as general exterior inspection areas around the yard perimeter. No interior activity or entry damage was observed during either visit.
